George Walkey was born in Torrington, North Devon, England, the seventh of eight children. His father was an Inn Keeper. On the 1871 census, George is shown to be a Cabinet maker/Journeyman. The 1911 census in Canada shows he arrived in 1876, but this must be wrong as his first son was born in 1875 in Canada, and he married there c 1874. George and Clementina had 8 sons and 1 daughter.
