ERNEST MYRL SQUYRES was born on September 8, 1924, in Ranger, son of Sentha Elizabeth and Riley O. Squyres, attended school in Bullock and Ranger and was a 1940 graduate of Ranger High School. His grandmother was Mrs. P. W. Squyres of Ranger. He was employed in defense work in San Diego, Calif., prior to entering the U.S. Army on June 5, 1943. He underwent trainingin Reno, Nevada, California, Utah and Virginia prior to being shipped overseas in September of 1944. He was first in England and later in Belgium with the Lightning Division of the Infantry when he was reported missing in action on December 16, 1944. He was later reported as wounded and a prisoner of war, held by the German government. Word came to the family when they received a letter written by Sgt. Squyres on January 18, 1945, and postmarked Stalag V1-B in which he stated that he hoped to be home soon. He was returned home and discharged in 1945. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European Theater - 3 battle stars,Victory and AT ribbons.

He attended Ranger Junior College after the war and graduated from George Washington University in 1949. He married and was father to twin sons. He worked in Saudi Arabia for a number of years. After retirement, he moved back to Ranger, TX

He was living in Ranger at the time of his death, Septmember 19, 1994. Burial at Evergeen Cemetery, beside his Mother.

He had three sisters: B. Lois Squyres Baulch; Eunice Florene Squyres and Helen Marie Squyres.
