Charles Ashba Dellinger was born on the family farm just south of Bucyrus on the 25th of December 1898 and was raised by his paternal grandparents. On the 8th of October 1915 his grandfather Peter Dellinger passed away leaving Charley to care for his grandmother Matilda and the family farm. Matilda passed away four years after her husband on the 21st of March 1919. Following his grandmother's death Charley took a job working for Kansas City Post Office main station. While working there he met Marie Helen Byerley. They were married on the 17th of March 1925 following which they moved back to the family farm. They farmed until Charley sold the farm and started his own trucking business. At this time they moved into Bucyrus. He would do general hauling from livestock to market and groceries back to stores on the highway back to Bucyrus. During the war he was awarded government contracts to haul and spread commercial lime on local farms. He also picked up parts, feed, building supplies, whatever anyone in our area needed from KC. He had two livestock trucks that could be converted to grain beds for harvest. He hauled water to all of us during the drought. There wasn't much he wasn't licensed to haul except airplanes. He did moving jobs in between.

His daughter Peg Dellinger Haynes had spent many a summer riding the truck with him. He was a very moral and honest man. Together Charley and Marie had five children: Charles Ashba Jr b February 6 1926 d December 9 1978, Margaret Marie b September 29 1928 (Peg Haynes), Ethel Vivian b 1929 d June 14 1999, Carl F b January 24 1934 d March 8 1994 and Jo Anne who died at eight days old on December 26 1944.
