James Luther Abel Jr. passed this life on Saturday, April 20, 2019 in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 93. He was born on October 7, 1925 in Durant, Oklahoma to James Luther and Lona Mae (Skaggs) Abel.
James attended Muskogee Public Schools and he joined the U.S. Navy during WWII in July of 1942 and served his country until December of 1945. While he was in the service he met the love of his life, Irma Jean Kebbe and they were united in marriage on April 4, 1944 and they spent sixty four years together until her passing in 2008. James worked for years as a Manager for US Rubber Company and retired as a School Bus Driver. In his free time he loved to watch baseball and football. James also enjoyed to fish and to ride his three wheeler in the sand dunes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma , his parents, James and Lona, one son, William Lee Abel and one brother-in-law, Rod McDonald.
James is survived by three daughters, Lona Fisher and husband, Rick, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Barbara Danville of Coos Bay, Oregon and Cathy McDonald of Rancho Cordova, California. He will also be missed by four grandchildren, Dawn, John, Jennifer and Melissa, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Muskogee Shipman Cremation & Funeral Service, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
