Margaret “Maggie” Saus Parseghian lived a wonderful life filled with love and compassion.
She was born June 3, 1920, in Alliance, Ohio to Stephen and Velma Mezei Saus, immigrants from Hungary and Romania. She grew up in Akron, Ohio where her sister Bertha (Joe Murray) was born. She attended St. Paul's Grade School, Garfield High School and University of Akron where she received a degree in elementary education. While in college, she met Gerard “Jerry” Parseghian. They were married June 21, 1943, in Akron and lived in Brunswick, Ohio where she taught fourth grade while Jerry worked at NACA in Cleveland.
After daughter Linda was born, Jerry took a job with Fuller Brush and they moved to Columbus then to Toledo where son Tom was born.
In 1957, Jerry and partners started Power Brushes Inc. in Toledo.
During their wonderful 67 year marriage, Jerry's and Maggie's favorite activity was getting together with their family. They supported their children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. They also took immense pleasure in hosting their family on numerous vacations. Upon retirement, they spent their winters in Marco Island, Florida, to enjoy walking the beach, boating, golfing, and watching for the green flash at sunset. Maggie became an expert sheller teaching everyone in the family the names of the shells. She kept a special collection of favorite shells and returned the rest to the beach hoping to make another sheller's trip a special one.
Upon Jerry's passing in 2010, Maggie moved to Swan Creek where she lived happily making new friends. She died Thursday, March 30, 2017 in her sleep.
A celebration of her life will be held at Swan Creek Chapel, 5916 Cresthaven Lane, Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Wednesday, April 5 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by mass at 11 a.m.
Family members include: children, Linda (Don Runyon) and Tom (Gayle) Parseghian; grandchildren, Craig (Deb McLaughlin) Runyon, Brent (Tina Egloff) Runyon, Jared Parseghian, Nathan (Julia) Parseghian, and Amara Parseghian; great-grandchilren, Owen and Amelia Runyon, Hayden, Jake, Reese and Jack Parseghian, Lillie (Jake) Shanley, Walker and Hope Allison; brother-in-law, Ara (Katie) Parseghian and many nieces and nephews.
Donations in Maggie's memory may be made to the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund, 215 Jordan Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or Ohio State University Foundation, Dr. J. Byrd Research Fund #310260, 1480 W. Lane Ave., Columbus, OH 43221.
