Alta Rae Hughes Craig was born May 8, 1931 in Shelby County, Texas, to Marion and Idell Oates Hughes. She attended schools in both Center and DeBerry. Alta worked over 20 years for AT&T as a machine operator. She married Eddie J.R. Craig in 1976 and they celebrated almost 44 years together. Mrs. Craig was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church and attended Still Waters Cowboy Church regularly. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and growing vegetables. She is preceded in death by her parents, and 12 siblings.
