Bernie was a newspaper layout editor for the Record Enterprise in Ashland for many years and an avid genealogist.
Bernie died at 83, at the Laconia Center following a period of declining health. He was preceded in death by a son Marshall Hughes and by several siblings, with one brother Ronald suriving him. He was survived by son Daniel, Jeffrey, and Carolyn and by 4 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
Funeral was held in Ashland St. Mark's Episcopal Church with burial in Green Grove Cemetery. (Full Obit Laconia Daily Sun, Sept 13)
