As a young adult Mary taught ballet at her sister Margaret's dance studio in Robstown, Alice, and Corpus Christi. She then enjoyed a long career in real estate, including owning her own company, Mary Grant Realtors. As a realtor, she was a member of the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors serving as Treasurer, and also managed the residential branch office of W.L. Bates.
Mary was actively involved in many local organizations, serving as an officer with Altrusa International and the Coterie Club. She loved to travel the world and play bridge with friends.
After the death of her brother Clayton, Mary became an important part of his family. She never missed a ballet recital of her nieces and great nieces, Margaret, Sarah, and Kristen and enjoyed giving holiday tea parties for the girls, as well as spending the holidays with Margaret or Byron's family. She also remained involved with her brother Gordon's son, Dick and his family, and her brother Lloyd's sons, Edward and Danny and their families. One of her greatest joys was beating them all in a good game of gin rummy, which she did frequently.
Mary is the last of a generation that includes her husband John Grabowske; brothers, Lloyd, Clayton, Gordon; and sister, Margaret Grant. Mary was also preceded in death by nephew, Edward Lee Grant.
Mary is survived by a niece, Margaret Grant Cruse (Gary); nephews Byron Grant (Kay), Gary Grant, Gordon (Dick) Grant (Betty Ann), and Danny Grant. Mary had numerous great-nieces and great-nephews: Darin Grant (Marilyn), Kelly (Debbie), Jason and Justin Grant, Chris, Karen and Clayton Grant, Karen Grant Mauro (Charles) and Sarah Cruse Trevino (Brandon) and Kristen Cruse.
