Shirley LaRue Steed Cawthon, 72, departed this life into her eternal home with Jesus May 8, 2007. She was born in Childress to Pat Skein Steed and Ruby Rainwater Steed on Jan. 17, 1935. She married Vernon James Cawthon in 1950.
She is survived by her husband, retired Texas DPS Major V.J. Cawthon; children, Jann Webb of Weatherford and Jay Cawthon of Mineral Wells; brother, John David Steed of Arlington; and sixteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial and celebration of Shirley's life was observed. Hoping others could benefit, she donated her body to Texas Tech Medical School for research.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley requested that memorial gifts be sent to the Childress Public Library, 117 Ave B NE, Childress, TX 79201.
