Married Fritz 10/14/1939

Opal K. Murrell Adams, 95, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 in Nacogdoches. Mrs. Adams was born on March 3, 1922, in Alazan, Texas, the daughter of Harmon Murrell and Sallie Fore Murrell. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robbyn Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Gravel Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel.

Opal grew up in Nacogdoches and made her home here. She was married to Fritz Adams, on October 14, 1939, and together, they had one son, Melvin. During her lifetime, she wore many hats, but she was best known for her bonnet she wore while out in the yard. Opal never had idle hands. She was constantly busy on her farm and in the yard. She worked at the Mize Factory, The Candy House, NISD Cafeteria, and Gay Products. Even though she seemed to have something going at all times, she always found time to be a helping hand to anyone who needed her. She also had a knack with using hand tools and doing finishing work with carpentry. She loved being outside and cherished the garden she kept every year.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her son, Melvin Adams and wife, Jean of Nacogdoches; sister, Nina Wilson of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Richard Adams and wife, Dawn of Mt. Pleasant and Kenneth Adams of Nacogdoches; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz G. Adams; brothers, Ottis Murrell and Walter Murrell; sisters, Helen Carter, Lois Johnson, Tessie Phillips, and Cleo Mullen; and great-granddaughters, Emmarie and Chloe Adams.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Wilson, Mike Phillips, Larry Carter, Dennis Esch, Rayburn Waggoner, Wayne Collins, Dick Tubbe, and Frank Adams.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Opals’ memory, to Gravel Ridge Cemetery 1653 FM 2782, Nacogdoches, Tx 75964 or Alazan Congregational Methodist Church 9508 FM 225, Nacogdoches, Tx 75964.
