Gary F. Whittaker, 71, of Danville, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born June 27, 1947 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Harry and June (Finchem) Whittaker.
He will be dearly missed by brothers, Harold (Jill) Whittaker of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Burt (Rose) Whittaker of Ridge Farm, Illinois; sister, Karen (Roger) Ladd of Madisonville, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon Whittaker.
He was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy.
Gary was a graduate of Danville High School in 1966. He worked at Quaker in Danville and the University of Illinois in the astronomy department working on their telescopes. In his free time, he enjoyed exploring caves and volunteering his time at Kennekuk mowing and maintaining the park.
