On June 22, 1957, he married Kathryn E. (Hayes) Whitaker in Wood River. Kathryn died March 2, 2013.
He is survived by a son & daughter in law; Dale & Diana Whitaker of Godfrey; two daughters & son in law, Beth Whitaker of Wood River and Sheila & Mike Hess-Whitaker of Alton, two grandchildren; Tia and Alicia, four great-grandchildren; Shane, Hunter, Adeline and Lucille, and a sister; Alice Thaxton of St Charles, MO.
He was a US Army Korean Veteran who received the Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal.
He worked at Laclede Steel for 43 years as a crane operator. He was an avid horseman who loved fishing and was a member of the Alton-Wood River Sportsman Club, honorary member of the Tri-County Rod and Gun Club, Boots and Saddle Club and the Doby Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents sisters; Virginia Cairns, Irene Carrol, Betty Cotton and Evelyn Roderfeld, brothers; Estelle Whitaker, Wilbur "Bib" Whitaker, Bob Whitaker, Delbert Whitaker and Jack Whitaker.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Targhetta and Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton. Prayer service at 4 pm
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton with Fr Bill Kessler officiating. Burial will be at Brighton Cemetery with full military honors by the Alton VFW Post #1308 Ritual Team
Memorials may be made to Treehouse Wildlife Refuge in Dow.
