Larry Joe McElhaney of Hoopeston passed away at home on May 23, 2018. He was 71 years old.

He was born on September 12, 1946 in Danville, Illinois to Dale LeRoy and Maxine (Farrell) McElhaney.

He is survived by his mother of Danville; his sister, Sherry Johnson (Phil) of Oakwood; his children, Kelly McElhaney of Homer, Dale McElhaney of Mahomet and David McElhaney (Dakorie) of Urbana; eight grandchildren, Brian and Jack Rushing, Jake and Emma McElhaney and Gabriel, Damon, Chloe and Nathan McElhaney; a nephew, Mark Toler of Danville and a niece, Marci Toler of Catlin.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Larry graduated Danville High School in 1964 and married Vearlina Rae Smith (divorced) on September 17, 1966. He enlisted in the Navy in 1968, served his country for 4 years and was honorably discharged.

He worked in the commercial refrigeration and air conditioning industry in Illinois and California. An avid supporter of President Trump, he enjoyed fishing, working around the house, his family and discussing the news of the day. He will be missed by his friends and family.
