John J. Anderson Jr., 76, insurance agent
John J. Anderson Jr., a retired Nationwide insurance agent and founder of an insurance agency in Cockeysville, died Monday from complications of a stroke at Blakehurst Life Care Community in Towson. He was 76.
A Blakehurst resident since 1998, Mr. Anderson had previously lived in Cockeysville.
Mr. Anderson owned and operated Jack Anderson Insurance for 30 years until he retired in 2000.
He began his career as a salesman for Sun Life Insurance Co. and later worked for Allstate.
Born and raised in Hamilton, Mr. Anderson was a 1943 graduate of Loyola High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and was discharged as a lieutenant. While serving in the Marines, he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He was married in 1943 to Maryellen Stelfox, who died in 1988. In 1989, he married S. Joan deBeaumont, who died in 1998.
An avid golfer, he played frequently at Pine Ridge. He also enjoyed coin collecting and genealogy.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered yesterday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Texas, Baltimore County.
Mr. Anderson is survived by two sons, John Dean Anderson of Westminster and Jordan J. Anderson of Timonium; two daughters, Mary Ellen Anderson of Phoenix, Baltimore County, and Susan Helena Anderson of Timonium; a brother, Neil J. Anderson of Chelmsford, Mass.; three sisters, Mary Kathleen Anderson Inglis (113542909) and Marjorie Rose Anderson, both of Baltimore, and Eileen A. Link of Lottsburg, Va.
