Mrs. Helen Benson Carter, 68, of 818 Erwin, died Saturday evening in a local hospital. A native of Corpus Christi, she was the daughter of pioneer settlers Mr. and Mrs. John Francis Benson.
Surviving are four daughters, Miss Helen Joyce Carter of Corpus Christi, a daughter of Houston, a daughter of San Diego, Calif., and a daughter of Pooler, Ga.; one son of Corpus Christi; one sister, Mrs. Julia Benson Stevens of Corpus Christi; and three grandchildren. Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service.

Ellen's brother, John Ferrell Benson was a firefighter who was injured in a fire truck collision while on duty. He survived the collision, but did not fully recover and died seven years later. His remains were carried to the cemetery aboard a fire truck.
Another brother, Francis J. Benson was missing in New Guinea since Oct. 1, 1944 and was officially declared dead by November 1947. He was with the Army Air Forces.
Ellen's father, John Francis Benson was one of Corpus Christi's first volunteer members of the hook and ladder brigade. He was also reported as a painter and decorator, a building contractor, and as a nursery laborer.
