William Thomas McElrath of Champaign passed away on Friday (March 9, 2018) in Urbana.

He was born in Decaturville, Tenn., on April 13, 1947, the son of J.T. and Mary Lee McElrath. William is a graduate of Crowder High School class of 1965. He proudly served in the United States Army for six years and was employed as a mechanic for Kraft Foods for 28 years, retiring in 2003. In 1998 he was united in holy matrimony to Valerie A. Kindle-Allen; she survives.

William enjoyed fishing, grilling, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a devoted family man, he loved his family dearly. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Valerie; sons, Joey (Denise) Pelmore, Paul Pelmore, Demetrius Allen and Darius Allen; daughters, CoShone (Craig) Williams, Cloreese Allen, Camila Allen and Caira (Kenya) Robinson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

William is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Serena; and brother, James.

Visitation for William will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services starting at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Jericho Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 W. Bloomington Road, Champaign. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery, 1900 E. Main St., Danville.

Arrangements are being made by Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign.
