HALBUR, LeRoy and HALBUR,Madonna "Donna" Mae née Kearney LeRoy Halbur, (b. August 14, 1937, in Roselle, Iowa) and his wife Madonna "Donna" Mae Halbur, née Kearney (b. August 10, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa) perished on Monday, October 9th, 2017, at their home in Santa Rosa, CA in the Santa Rosa fire. They are survived by their two sons, Timothy Lee and David Patrick Halbur; their daughters-in-law, Michelle Marie Halbur and Amy McCabe Heibel; their grandsons, Travion Dwight Jackson and Rowan Drake Halbur; siblings Jolene, Linda, Ken, Duane and Glen Halbur; and Cecil, Paul, and Marcella Kearney. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army in military intelligence in Okinawa in the 1st Infantry Division (the "Big Red One"). He attended college on the G.I. bill and earned a master's degree in accounting. Donna joined the religious order of Holy Humility of Mary and subsequently left the order to attend college, earning a degree in education and a graduate certificate as a literacy specialist. LeRoy and Donna married on August 12, 1967, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They welcomed their eldest son Timothy on March 31, 1969, and their second son, David, October 16, 1971. LeRoy worked for Codding Enterprises for over 30 years prior to his retirement, and was an avid world traveler. Donna had a lifelong passion for learning and literacy, wrote several children's books, and was an elementary school teacher for several years. The kind and generous couple were devoted members of Resurrection Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, California. LeRoy was also a long-time volunteer with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Sonoma County, providing food and other aid to those in need. Services: October 28 at 11 a.m., St. Joseph's Church, 3300 Easton Ave. Des Moines, Iowa. November 10th at 11 a.m., Resurrection Church, 303 Stony Point Rd., Santa Rosa, California The family requests that gifts in honor be directed to St. Vincent de Paul of Sonoma County (svdp-sonoma.org).
