Lydia, as she was usually called, was a teacher, college instructor and U. S. Civil Service examiner. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Radcliffe College in 1911 and a Master of Arts in Latin from the University of California at Berkeley in 1919. While a student, and up until the mid 1920s she was a teacher in Stockton and Oxnard, California. From 1927 to 1929 she was an instructor at West Virginia University. She received her PhD either from UC Berkeley or WVU. She joined the United States Civil Service around 1930 and worked in Washington, DC and Oakland, CA as an Examiner and eventually as a Historian until her retirement.
