Mrs. Martha Pearce died at 9:45 a. m. yesterday at her home on Dale street, Reynoldton. She was a very respected lady and had reached the advanced age of eighty-eight years. Her death was due to general infirmities. She was the mother of nine children, four of whom survive her. They are Mrs. E. Hooper, Robert Pearce, Mrs. Elizabeth Lilley [sic] and J. W. Pearce. The funeral took place this afternoon. Interment at Richland cemetery.
Martha Pearce emigrated from England to the US some time after the 1881 England Census. Her entry in that census shows her as head of household and working as a grocer, age 72, in Feock, Cornwall. Both she and her daughter Elizabeth Lilly, 37, are listed as widows.
