James Weldon Bowden, age 82, of Comanche, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in a Dallas hospital.

Weldon was born on August 29, 1935 in Mills County to Marvin and Lena Mae (Smith) Bowden. He was a graduate of Comanche High School and Oklahoma State University. He served three years in the Air Force before he began teaching in the Garland Independent School District. He later served as a Junior High principal and then was an Elementary School principal for twenty years. He retired in 1993 and moved back to his beloved hometown of Comanche.

Weldon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georg Ann (Hunter) Bowden; daughter, Leah Rene Murphy; granddaughter, Kellie and husband Chad Brown and their sons, Max and Blaze Brown, grandson, Michael Murphy and wife Sandy and their daughters, Abigail and Madilyn Murphy, granddaughter, Megan and husband George Yonitch and their sons, Tyson and Miles Dees, grandson, James Bowden of Brownwood and granddaughter, Trinity Murphy of Comanche, a brother, Doug Bowden and wife Jan and their sons, Jason and Cory Bowden and their families.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jimmy Bowden and a grandson, Jimmy Paul Murphy.
Weldon was a very caring and compassionate person that loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved and was loved by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and so many friends.
