FAIRBORN — John Herbert Bennington, age 88 of Fairborn, passed away Tuesday December 13, 2016. He is the son of the late Chester Karl Bennington, 1901 – 1992 and Marjorie Marvin (John) Bennington, 1902 - 1987. During the Korean Conflict John served with the 82nd Army Airborne Division. Upon leaving military service he served the city of Fairborn for 33 years as a police officer. John, and his wife Ann, volunteered for many organizations including 10 years with the American Red Cross National Disaster Services and the National Forest Service. John was preceded in death by his sister Bette Jane (Bennington) Lowrey, 1924 - 2005; and brothers Ardis Paul Bennington, 1926; Robert Dale Bennington, 1930 – 2005; Don Bassett Bennington, 1932 – 2013. He is survived by his youngest brother Lee. He is also survived by his wife of 54 years, Delores Ann (Johnston) Bennington, his children Vivian Gaye (McClellan) Blankenship, Jon Herbert Bennington, James Vrooman Laming, Thea Elizabeth (Bennington) Green, Paul Scott Bennington, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3060 Terry Drive Fairborn, Ohio, 2:00 pm, Saturday December 17, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in John's memory. Arrangements were by Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn.
