He had been a security officer for the Essex County Hospital in Cedar Grove for 10 years before his retirement in 1981. Earlier, Mr. Johnstone had been a plant manager with the Nevins Church Press in Glenn Ridge where he worked for 30 years.
He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6255, Cedar Grove. Mr. Johnstone was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 205 F & M, West Orange.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he lived in Kearny before moving to West Orange 26 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Pearson); a son, Ken L. of Daytona Beach, Florida; a grandson, Kenneth J.; and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Allan of Scotch Plains.
Arrangements were by the Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ace., Livingston, New Jersey. Interment at Crest Haven Memorial Park, Clifton, New Jersey.
