Harry Eugene Amthauer, 71, died Monday, September 4, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.

Born in Joplin, Missouri on March 8,1946; Harry was the son of Evelyn Fern (Sandy) and Earl Walter Amthauer. He had a Bachelor of Science degree and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Harry was an Aerospace Engineer, having worked for Beech Aircraft and Northrup Grumman.

Harry married Judith Don Girvin in Kansas City, Kansas. Two years ago he moved from Arlington, Texas to Abilene, where he was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Amthauer.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Amthauer of Abilene; daughter, Emily Amthauer of Abilene; brother, Paul Amthauer and wife Jackie of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

A committal service for his cremains will be held at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road (FM 600), at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, with Rev. Dot Lea and Rev. Felicia Hopkins officiating. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 3100 Barrow Street, Abilene, TX 79605; St. Paul United Methodist, 525 Beech Street, Abilene, TX 79601; or the EAA Chapter 476 Young Eagles, PO Box 2585, Abilene, TX 79604
