She was born on October 26, 1918, the daughter of Josiah and Jessie Brodt Winters in Marion, IN.
She married Dale L. Dawalt on June 19, 1937 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1977. She then married Orville L. Ewing on June 1, 1983 and he preceded her in death on September 23, 1985. J. Delene was a graduate of Butler High School, Miami County, IN and attended the First Methodist Church, Peru. She was a member of Butler Homemakers, Eastern Star, PEO and Order of Amaranth #97 Oriental Shrine and was a past Royal Matron.
J Delene is survived by her sons, Cary (Carol) Dawalt, Peru, Kraig (Caroline) Dawalt, Logansport. Grandchildren, Garry (Kathy) Dawalt, Dale Dawalt, Jeff (Jena) Dawalt, Jodi (David) Grant, Cara Dawalt, Erick (Krista) Dawalt, Renee (Rob) Gall and Ryan (Sarah) Dawalt, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. One brother-in-law, Larry Yoder, and a former daughter-in-law Alice Dawalt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sons Gary and Kent Dawalt. Also, brothers, J. Paul, Pearly and Theodore Winters, sisters Ruth Yoder, Eita Winters and one infant sister, Elizabeth.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, IN at a later time. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., Saturday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
