Wayne (Sonny) Clayton Wehmeyer, 62, passed peacefully with his entire family by his side on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at his home in Port Lavaca, TX. He was born on September 17, 1954 in Port Lavaca, to Wayne and Dorothy (Marshall) Wehmeyer.

Sonny was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a mentor and teacher for the many young people who worked alongside him in his farming operation. Wayne farmed in Calhoun County for 32 years along with his wife, Gail Wehmeyer, his high school sweetheart, whom he married in 1974. They were happily married for 42 years. He loved being a farmer. He was proud of his crops, his barns, his equipment. He enjoyed life. He learned to scuba dive, loved to go fishing offshore, enjoyed hunting, and also became a pilot. Flying became his passion. He couldn't wait to take off on a good day.

Sonny served on the Farmer's Gin and Elevator Board, the Moreman Gin and Elevator Board, was director for Drainage District 11, and member of the Airport Advisory Board. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

A visitation will be held at Richardson–Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. A church service will be held at Salem Lutheran Church on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery.
