J. E. Matthews Dies Saturday
Jessie Eugene Mathews, 79, died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday at the Catlett Nursing Home where he had been a patient for some time.
Jessie Mathews was born Feb. 4, 1876 at Sweetwater, Tex., son of Culpepper and Julia Hooper Mathews. He was a retired farmer and had been a resident of this community for twenty four years. He had been a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard Cruse, Chicago, and Melinda Mathews of Independence, who had left Friday night for Washington, D. C. where she had obtained a Civil Service job; two half-sisters, Mrs. Bess Pollard, Coolidge, Tex; Mrs Minnie Peters, Tyler, Tex.; and one half-brother, Jack East, Deer Park, Tex. He was preceded in death by twin sons who were killed in World War II.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time pending arrival of relatives and will be announced later by the Potts Funeral Home.
