Charles “Charlie” White, age 86 of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Jefferson County Health Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, May 29, 2017 at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Todd Holman officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Maasdam Barns, McElhinny House Foundation or First United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: 502 Kingman Circle, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Charles was born April 13, 1931 to Oscar and Evelyn (Smith) White in Morton, MN. He married Judy Hollander Towne April 10, 1982 at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Fairfield.

Charlie graduated from Jefferson High School Class of 1949. He served in the Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. Charlie worked in the grocery business for 48 years. He worked 23 years with United Food stores in Jefferson, Indianola and Greenfield. Later he joined Easter Foods, managing stores in Oskaloosa and Newton. In 1976 he became the store manager for Easter Foods in Fairfield, retiring in 1993.

Charlie was a member of Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants Association, Rotary Club (past president), Lord’s Cupboard, Fairfield Community Fund, VFW, American Legion, board member of McElhinny House Foundation, and an active member of First United Methodist Church. He helped with the restoration of Maasdam Barns and volunteered with many community projects. Charlie enjoyed wood working, gardening and yard work. He and Judy enjoyed extensive traveling with the Heritage Club and spent 5 winters in Texas.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Judy White of Fairfield, IA; 4 children, Steve (Denise) White of Killduff, IA, Donnita (Gary) Cook of Charleston, SC, Scott (Terri) White of Colorado Springs, CO and Lisa White of Schertz, TX;
3 grandchildren, Jason Reiff, James White and Jordyn White; and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Evelyn White; 4 sisters, Dorothy, Edna, Ida and Norma; and 3 brothers, Wayne, Elmer and Donald.
