Graveside services for Charles Henry "Charlie" Jacobs, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Plainview Cemetery with Brad Huckabee, chaplain for Family Hospice of the Plains, officiating.
Burial arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mr. Jacobs died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 1997, at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1935, in Flomot where he grew up. He attended schools in Flomot, Kress, Silverton and Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and after his discharge, returned to Plainview.
He was the first fire marshal in Plainview and retired from the Plainview Fire Department in 1975.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was Commander of the American Legion Post 5399. He also was a member of the Open Heart Club since 1973.
He married Shirley Chaney on Aug. 11, 1982, in Tishomingo, Okla.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Deborah Shook and Sharon Hinds, both of Arlington, and Sandra Januta of Plainview; one son, Mike Jacobs of Bedford; two brothers, Joe Jacobs of Plainview and James Jacobs of Silverton; a sister, Christine Noble of Eunice, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, U.S. Jacobs, Adlee Jacobs Jr., and John Jacobs, are deceased.
