Virginia Kay Watkins, 72, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Visitation will be held May 11, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, with a reception to follow at the home of Scott and Patricia Watkins, 925 Logansport Street in Nacogdoches.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Long Branch Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas.

Kay was born May 9, 1944, in Gorman, Texas to Charley Alexander and Gladys Lillie (Daugherty) Walker. She grew up in Rising Star, Texas and graduated high school in 1962. She then attended and graduated from Draughon's Business College in Abilene.

During her career, she will be most remembered for her role as County Treasurer for Nacogdoches County where she served six consecutive terms from 1983 – 2006. She was also a member of The Nacogdoches Garden Club and The Nacogdoches Historical Society.

Kay Watkins was an avid gardener, and many people would comment on the beauty as they drove by her home. She loved animals, taking on strays to find a home as well as nurturing wild animals back to health.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Cloyd Walker; and sister, Imogene Dudley.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Scott Watkins and wife Patricia and Charles Walker Watkins.
