Emmett Carl "Chip" Haskin, Jr., age 45, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Hospice Wendover. Born in Cleveland County, on April 19, 1971, he was the son of Emmett Carl Haskin and Linda Jo Blanton Haskin of Shelby.

Chip was an avid baseball player and fan, coaching numerous championship little league teams through the years at Shelby City Park. Playing many sports throughout his life, he was always a great teammate and gracious competitor. He loved golf, Western Carolina Catamounts and pulled for the Carolina Tar Heels. He was a devoted father, husband, son and friend. He never met a stranger and always wore a contagious smile.

In addition to his parents, Chip is survived by his wife of 19 years, Katie Burton Haskin; two sons, EC Haskin and Heath Haskin, both of the home; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Faye Burton of Shelby; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tee and Amanda Burton of Shelby; nephews, Trey Burton and Reed Burton; special cousins, Bud Haskin, Clyde Haskin, Jacob Sigmon, Roxanne Calvert; and a host of other loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m., on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Randy Blanton, Rev. Jamie Mosteller and Rev. Mike Chambers officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the Epworth Building.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC 28152 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , PO Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
