Stephen underwent a heart transplant in 2015, and was hospitalized for a year. He had transferred to a nursing home in the months before his death, but he still needed the use of a wheelchair.

Stephen is survived by a brother James Alvin Bachman (wife Jane) and a sister, Deborah Susan Bachman Witty (husband Donald), all of Springfield, IL, along with their families.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Al Bachman and Emily Irlam Bachman.

Visitation and funeral were at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, 295 Main Street NW in Bourbonnais, IL 60914. Visitation was at 10:00am until service at 12:00 noon on Sat. March 4 at the funeral home.

Stephen W. Bachman, 62, of Kankakee, passed away on Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2017) at the University of Chicago.

He was born on March 16, 1954, in Kankakee, the son of Alvin and Emily (Irlam) Bachman.

Stephen worked at CSL Behring for 35 years. He was a member of the Chicago Botanical Gardens, and he loved flowers and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Deborah (Don) Witty, of Springfield; brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Jane) Bachman, of Springfield; niece and nephew, Kyle Bachman, of Nashville, Tenn., and Hannah (Greg) Marantz, of Springfield; and special friends, Maleta and Kevin Garland, of Kankakee.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. on Saturday until the noon service at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.

Memorials may be made to Chicago Botanical Gardens.
