KILGORE -- Funeral services for Jack L. Fleet Sr., 72, of Kilgore, will be at 10 a.m. today, February 2, 2007, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kelly Brian officiating. Interment will follow in Crim's Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Fleet died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. Jack was born January 13, 1935, in Crim's Chapel, to Ernie and Hetty Fleet, who preceded him in death. He was a 1953 graduate of Henderson High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He excelled in basketball and baseball, even coaching the baseball team while playing. Jack served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Leyte from 1955-1957. He continued his service in the U.S. Navy Reserves until 1963. Mr. Fleet worked and retired from Uncle Ben's Rice Co. in Houston in 1993. Jack was a Baptist and attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church. One son, Michael Lee Fleet; and four brothers, preceded Mr. Fleet in death. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Ruby Fleet; sons, Ricky Fleet and Jack L. Fleet Jr., both of Crosby, and Toby Fleet of Huffman; daughter, Melissa Fleet Wilkie of Spring; stepchildren, Lee Hampton, Wade Hampton and Donna Broadwater, all of Kilgore; granddaughter, Amber Fleet-King of Spring; stepgrandchildren, Phillip and Lana Broadwater and Jessica, Mikel, Matt, Colin and Drew Hampton; one brother, Billy Fleet of Diana; and two sisters, Thelma Gore of Baytown, and Patsy Cox of Deer Park. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Dennis Fleet, Don Fleet Jr., Jimmy Fleet, Randy Fleet, Harry Gore and Gerald Cox Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pannell, Tommy Webb Sr., Ralph Hendrix and Rusty Gore. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, February 1, 2007, at the funeral home.
