Mrs. Ricci was the wife of Richard Ricci, who was a parolee that had been a primary person of interest in the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case. Richard Ricci had worked for the Smart family as a handyman and he was arrested 9 days after Smart was abducted on a parole violation. Richard Ricci died of a brain hemorrhage during his incarceration before Elizabeth Smart was discovered with her captor, Brian Mitchell. While Mrs. Ricci expressed her relief that Elizabeth had been located, she later committed suicide by a drug overdose. Her son, Trevor Morse, stated that while his mother may have died of the drug overdose, she actually died of a broken heart.
