Margaret Ann Harriet Dean was born 10 April 1835 in Elbert County, Georgia to John Dean and Mary Scott. It is believed that Mary Scott died shortly after Margaret was born. John soon after moved to Alabama where he married Sarah Farmer in 1836. On 7 May 1855, Margaret married William G Fendley, a widower who had 6 children with his deceased wife Elizabeth Cox who died after 1851 and before 1855. These children were born between 1838-1851, they were Sarah Elizabeth, John Harrison, Harriet Anne, Rebecca, Amanda Carolina, and William F. William G and Margaret had 9 children of their own from 1857-1878, who were Eliza Jane, Susan Catherine, Jesse J, John Thomas, Arminda, James Garrett, Joseph Marion, Mary, and George Oliver. William G died in 1889 and several of their children migrated to Texas, Arminda to Red River County in North Texas, John Thomas to Brian, Brazos County, Texas, Joseph Marion and George Oliver lived in Iola, Grimes County, Texas, Mary Fendley lived in Ellis County, Texas, and Margaret Ann Harriet Dean's half brother Thomas Zachary Taylor Dean was probably the first to migrate to Texas in 1888 with his wife and large family.
