Dennis Daren Ames a resident of Cedar Vale, KS passed away March 2, 2017 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK at the age of 74.
Dennis was born January 10, 1943 in Winfield Ks to Winifred E. (Williams) and Darrel Jasper Ames. The family resided in Newkirk, Udall, Cedar Vale, Winfield and settled again in Newkirk in 1950. Dennis served a short time in the military before pursuing employment opportunities that included being a police officer and firefighter in Newkirk. He also established himself as an extremely skilled carpenter. He worked on the North Slopes in Alaska for ARCO Oil Field facilities on many projects, in many locations, primarily as a crane operator. He loved this work and returned to it many times during his life.
Dennis a was member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed many activities that would keep him busy and outdoors, to include, he loved fishing, camping, boating, etc. but his greatest joy was watching his three younger kid's activities and the company of anyone who was up for a laugh and a good joke.
Dennis is survived by four daughters he had with Ann (Smith): Sonja Patton, Teresa Easterly, Denise Fox and Bobbi Beamer , three children he had with Tammy (Lockwood): Devon Ames, Demi Ames, Denali Ames, three step children: Gina Hill, Tara Graves and Jeb Taylor, four siblings: Mildred Smith, Kerry Ames, Deanna Cantwell, Mike Ames and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Darrell Ames, sisters Sonya Gregory and Sharon Kling and two granddaughters: Josephine Ames and Amanda Kent.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Newkirk Cemetery in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Dennis' name for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home
