Rosemarie A. Acanto of Wethersfield, lost her courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at UConn Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Saverio and Angelina (Ambruso) Acanto. Rosemarie graduated from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1949. She retired from the State of CT Judicial Department.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Guerard and her fiancé Craig Chadwick of Marlborough and Doreen Raskys and her husband Joe of Colchester; four loving grandchildren, Ryan and Joshua Guerard and Michael and Katie Raskys; a sister, Connie Bourman of Eagle, ID; and a brother, Ralph Acanto and his wife Annette of South Windsor. She also leaves nephews, Stephen Acanto and Robert Bourman and his family, in addition to numerous extended family and friends.

Rosemarie was active in local politics and kept busy by volunteering for a number of organizations including AIDS Project-Hartford and Tabor House where she met her special buddies, Ben and Lanisha Adam of Glastonbury. While volunteering at St. Francis Hospital she met the Drs. Scanlon, who coaxed her out of retirement to work for them part time which she did with joy and enthusiasm.

In addition to her work and volunteer activities, Rosemarie enjoyed spending her time with her family; time at Cape Cod with her special group of high school friends; cheering on UConn Women's Basketball; watching the latest movies and reading the latest novels. Rosemarie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She brought joy and laughter into the lives of many.

The family thanks everyone for their care during Rosemarie's illness, especially the extraordinary efforts given by her primary home caregivers: grandson, Ryan Guerard and cousin, Marie DeFillipo, as well as the nurses and staff on Floor 6 and the Cancer Treatment Center at UConn Health Center.

To celebrate the life of Rosemarie a Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday (March 3) 10am at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill. The burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to International Myeloma Foundation, 1260 Riverside Dr, Suite 206, North Hollywood, CA, or to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 51 Locust Ave, Suite 201, New Canaan, CT. Arrangements by the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel. Published in The Hartford Courant on Mar. 1, 2007
