Irwin Lafayette Pennington, 74 passed away Thursday, September 28, 1995 at his residence in San Angelo, Texas. Irwin was born March 1, 1921, in Silverton, Texas and had been a resident of San Angelo since 1946.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and served in the 59th Regiment of the Coast Artillery Corps. He fought in the Battle of Corregidor and had been a prisoner of war for three years and three months.

Irwin was married to Evelyn Stolberg on January 12, 1946 in San Angelo, Texas. She preceded him in death on February 14, 1981. Mr. Pennington had a long career as a barber and was known to customers and friends as "Penny". Irwin also taught Sunday School classes in area Nursing Homes for many years, and he loved to play his guitar and sing gospel songs. Irwin later married Ruby Farris of San Angelo in December 1981.

Irwin was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Martha Pennington; his first wife, Evelyn Pennington, and his granddaughter Linsey Strickland. Survivors include his wife Ruby, of San Angelo; one daughter, Martha Strickland, and husband Terry, and two grandsons, Kasey Strickland and Cody Strickland all of San Angelo; one brother, Derwood Pennington of Lubbock, Texas; and three sisters, Luella Young of California, Olean Plotner of Washington and Pearl Griffin of Merkel, Texas.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joe Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with arrangements by Johnson's Funeral Home.
