John Weldon "Pap" Waldenville, 79, of Orr Avenue, Kittanning, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at his son and daughter-in-law's (Kenneth and Marcy Waldenville) residence in Boggs Township.


He was born June 15, 1924, in Brownstown to Jesse Robert Sr. and Stella M. (Powell) Waldenville.


Mr. Waldenville was employ-ed at the West Leechburg Works of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., where he worked on the edge conditioners in the fin-ishing department for 24 years until his retirement in 1987.


A veteran, he served in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II, making 18 jumps.


He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in East Franklin Township.


His memberships included retirees of the United Steel Workers of America of Leechburg; and the Veterans of For-eign Wars post in Kittanning.


He was an avid softball player prior to his retirement. He also played volleyball, football and cards. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching the fights and writing poetry and songs.


Survivors include his wife of six years, Evelyn (Dunn) Dowling Waldenville; four sons, John W. Waldenville Jr. of Ernest, Kenneth W. Waldenville of Templeton, Thomas J. Waldenville of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Timothy J. Walden-ville of Mars; four daughters, Judy Gigliotti of McKeesport, Mrs. Jose (Janet) Gutierrez Sr. of Brush Valley, Mrs. Paul (Barbara Jean) Andrews of Elderton, and Peggy Walden-ville of Apollo; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Waldenville of Bagdad and Chauncey Waldenville of Vandergrift; and three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Mabel) Johns-Nicewonger of Sarver, Mrs. Robert (Caroline) Lorent of Luscesco, and Mrs. Guyer (Althea) Schantz of Bedford Heights, Ohio.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Emma Catherine "Coke" (Schantz) Waldenville, who died Nov. 29, 1988; two sons, Jesse and Stanley Waldenville, who died in infancy; one great-grandson, Ryan Ugoletti; four brothers, Jesse Robert Waldenville Jr., Harry S., E. Grant, and Merle Waldenville; and two sisters, Jean Miller-Knoch and Opal Waldenville.


WALDENVILLE — Friends of John Weldon "Pap" Wal-denville, 79, of Orr Avenue, Kittanning, who died Aug. 25, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clawson's, Second at Main, Leechburg where additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, with Daryl "Buck" Stitt, interim pastor of Victory Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brookland Cemetery, Allegheny Township.
