Sharon Carney lived a life of giving, loving, and laughing. She was always there to help and loved to cook and feed you. Whether you were coming to her house or you to hers, she provided something good to eat. If you needed help packing to move or a ride to the store, Sharon was there.
Sharon served as a deacon for Metropolitan Community Church of Knoxville, until her health prevented her.
She loved her friends and family and was always good to call and check on them. A day seldom went by that she didn’t talk to her mother on the phone.
She cared for her partner of 17 years, Miriam, until her death. Sharon devoted her later years to caring for her ailing aunt and uncle until their deaths and her parents until they moved to be near her sister.
Sharon worked as a safety inspector for a nuclear plant in Texas before moving back to Tennessee in 1993. As a returning non-traditional student, she studied biology at the University of Tennessee and worked as an assistant in the Great Smokey Mountains collecting water and soil samples.
She loved being outdoors, puttering in the garden and taking care of animals. She always had a yard full of cats and house full of dogs. They were her children.
Sharon is survived by her four dogs Jasper, Heidi, Emma & Pete; her closest friends Katie Vaughan, Delanna Reed, Margaret & Bruce Prewitt and their children Shane, Marcia, and Sam; her parents Theodore and Aileen Carney, her brother, Ted Carney and fiancé Jacquie Evans & her sister Linda Bledsoe and husband Chuck Bledsoe.
She is also survived by nieces Jan Flaherty, Caitlyn Mayers and Madison Carney, nephew Hal Bledsoe & great nieces Ava and Mya Flaherty.
Sharon had a quirky, irreverent sense of humor balanced by her love for God. She now rests in the arms of Jesus, with no more pain, heartache and illness.
We will miss her quick wit, loving smile, warm hugs, and thoughtfulness.
