Harvey Orace McFadden Jr. was born to Harvey Sr. and Dollye Alexander McFadden on August 16, 1943. He was raised in San Antonio where he attended Riverside Baptist Church. He graduated from Highlands High School, San Antonio Junior College, and Southwest Texas State College.

He met his wife, Bobbie, while serving as president of the Baptist Student Union at San Antonio Junior College. They were married on August 28, 1965. He and his wife had two daughters: Melissa McFadden Wenzel and Andrea McFadden.

He taught elementary school for two years in San Antonio before entering the United States Customs Service (later renamed the Department of Homeland Security) in 1968. He served as an Intelligence Research Specialist and fraud investigator until his retirement in 2006.

Harvey was a deacon and active member at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. He served on many committees and regularly volunteered on mission trips to the Rio Grande Valley area with his friends and trip leaders. They built churches and served in other mission activities in the area.

His many hobbies included salt water fishing, woodworking, reading, and studying history. He loved the Texas Gulf Coast and was a member of the Coastal Conservation Association. He built furniture and was an avid reader who enjoyed reading mysteries, westerns, and historical accounts of World War II.

He will be remembered by his family as a kind, generous, loving, Christian husband and father. He will be remembered by his friends as a thoughtful Christian with a wonderful, often quirky, sense of humor.
