A service to honor and celebrate Sue’s life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sue will be laid to rest at Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Blue Mound Fire Department.
Sue was born on November 19, 1942 in Benton, IL, the daughter of Byford and Margaret (Doty) Barnfield. She married Robert Dean “Bob” Varvel on November 29, 1961. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2001.
Sue worked in the trucking industry for 20 years, she was a house mother at Webster-Cantrell Hall for 8 years and she worked for Casey’s in Blue Mound for one year. She enjoyed racing, sewing and gardening but most of all she loved her family.
Sue is survived by her children: William Kevin Varvel and his wife Susan of Blue Mound, IL, Susan D. Wareham and her companion David Heitz of Blue Mound, IL, Gaylord Dean Varvel and his wife Trinda of Blue Mound, IL, Dawn R. Varvel of Decatur, IL and Garnet Woolard and her husband Bryan of Decatur, IL; brothers: Jerry Barnfield of Benton, IL and Bobby Barnfield of Harrisburg, IL; sister: Judy Darr of Benton, IL;
grandchildren: Sam Roles of Ohio, Katie Varvel of Decatur, IL, Holly Varvel of Blue Mound, IL, Maggie Wareham of Blue Mound, IL, Cassidy Varvel of Texas, Hannah Woolard of Missouri, Tabitha Woolard of Decatur, IL, Austin Woolard of Decatur, IL, Tyler Varvel, Gavin Varvel, Hayden Varvel and Hunter Varvel all of Blue Mound, IL; 6 great grandchildren; nephew: Mark Hudgens and his wife Cheryl of Bourbonnais, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Kirk L. Varvel, grandson: Brandon Michael Varvel, brother: Frank Barnfield, son-in-law: Robert Doyle, brother-in-law: Dean Darr, sister-in-law: Alice Barnfield and nephews: Tom Darr and Michael Hudgens.
