Donald Ray Simons (Sonny), 79, of Robinson, TX, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 29, after a short illness at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 2, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 6 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, at the funeral home.

Don was born September 2, 1937, in Asa, Texas, to the late John Pete Simons and Bessie Haigood Simons. Don married the love of his life, Jacqueline Thompson, June 13, 1959, in Waco, Texas.

Don found his calling to serve the Lord through his teaching of Sunday school and leading music for many years at Downsville Baptist Church in Downsville, Texas. He cared about and loved everyone and tried to help anyone he could.

Don’s love of Christ showed through the way he lived his life. He enjoyed having his family over every weekend and watching his great-grandchildren play. He loved the outdoors and walking and talking to people along the way; he loved watching the Baylor Bears, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys play, along with other sports. He loved building and making crafts in his workshop.

Don worked at William Cameron Lumber Company for more than 30 years, which many of those were as supervisor. The plant closed and he began working at Nystroms Printing for approximately 10 years before his retirement.

Don is survived by his wife Jacqueline Simons; brother Jimmy Simons and wife Joy; sister Ruth Loesch; son, Randy Simons and wife Jan; daughter, Pam Simons and husband Billy McCarver; grandchildren, Jeffery Simons and wife Alyse, Tyler McCarver and wife Kayla, Dustin McCarver and wife Shelley, and Heather McCarver; and his great-grandchildren, Elliot, Hazel, Bradyn, Kayleigh, and Ashlynn.
