Tommy Ray Owens was born on August 2, 1936 in Frankston, Texas to Bernice and Edna Lee Owens, the second of three children. Tommy went to be with his Lord on November 19, 2016.
Finding a passion for sports at a young age, throughout his schooling, Tommy was always involved in some sort of athleticism. His true loves were baseball and basketball; in High School, Tommy even played on the basketball team to represent his school. Eventually, Tommy left High School to pursue a new love and become wed to the woman he'd met as a girl in Elementary School, Wilma Jeanene Petrey. Tommy and Jeanene eloped to Palestine, Texas in November of 1952, and within three years had two sons, Jimmy and Roger. After a few years Tommy regained his interest in education and eventually earned his GED, which lead him to want a better life for his family. Tommy began studying Accounting at the local college in town, and also held down three part-time jobs to ensure his family was provided for.

Tommy began his employment career with Mrs. Barid's Bakery, but after only a few short years Tommy went to work for Howmet Aluminum and rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

Keeping his passion for sports, Tommy was always involved in the athletic pursuits of his children, coaching their baseball teams and supporting them in all of their endeavors in life.

Besides his passion for sports and taking care of his family, Tommy was a devoted member of the Church of Christ where he attended services each week until his Parkinson's prevented him from doing so.

His family describes him as a quiet man, but always quick with a smile and one that had an awesome dry sense of humor. His church, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joys of his life.

Tommy is preceded in death by his wife Wilma Jeanene Owens; his parents Bernice and Edna Lee Owens; his son Roger Owens; and his sister Judy Prater.

He is survived by his brother Bill Owens; son Jim Owens; daughters-in-law Joan and Vickie Owens; granddaughters Autumn Beashore, Jennifer Hoefler, Tara Emerson, and Sarah Boyles; grandsons Grant Owens, Zachary Owens, and Cory Emerson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place on the evening of Monday, November 21, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home located at 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, Texas 75149.
