John was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Sabula, son of the late George and Ethel (Duttry) Uren. He was married to Florence J. (Solada) Uren; she preceded him in death in 2015.
John served with the US Army during World War II with the 871st Field Artillery Battalion.
John was retired from DuBois Tool & Electric as a carpenter. He was a member of Sabula United Methodist Church and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
John is survived by two sons, Rick (Kris) Uren of Sabula and Tom Uren of Sabula; two grandchildren, Jonathan Uren of Sabula and Brittany Volosky and husband Mark of Sabula; three great-grandchildren Zach, Dominic and Owen Volosky; and one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Renner of Sabula.
John is preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Therman and Richard Uren; and two sisters, Ladora Gontero and Driscilla Punchous.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois. A Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Harold "Butch" Brunner officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
