Statesman. 21st Premier of New South Wales, Australia. He served as premier on two occasions. First from 5 October 1921 to 20 December 1921 and second from 20 December 1921 to 13 April 1922. Prior to becoming premier he joined the Labor party and In 1907, he was elected to the the Legislative Assembly where he served almost 20 years. In November 1916 he became deputy party leader. He was appointed Colonial Secretary and Minister for Housing from April 1920 to October 1921. He then became premier. He is best remembered for his influence in enacting important legislation on arbitration, profiteering and price controls. He also oversaw the inauguration the Rural Bank department of the Government Savings Bank. He continued to serve in the Legislative Assembly until 1927.
