Williamsport - Tom Franklin Drake, 90, of 16136 Cloverton Lane, Williamsport, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2002, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, Md.

Born Oct. 24, 1911, he was the son of the late Jesse James and Frances Miller Drake.

He was a 1930 graduate of Williamsport High School.

He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Corp., retiring after 27 years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1932 until 1935. He served as a sergeant with the 11th Engineers in the Panama Canal Zone.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

He was past president of Williamsport Parent and Teacher's Association, past president of the Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co., past president of Conococheague Little League where he designed and helped erect the present playing field, past chairman of Williamsport Water and Sewer Commission, chairman for many years of the Progressive Party's Nominating Committee and past president of the Washington County Men's Democratic Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lane McElroy Drake, in 1999.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. French of Williamsport and V. Gail Lankford of Annandale, Va.; a son, Thomas E. Drake of Dallas, Texas; a sister, L. Virginia Benedict of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.

Graveside services for Virginia L. and Tom F. Drake will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 5 p.m. for family and friends.

The family request the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, MD 21795.
