Ruth was the daughter of Erastus Barry and Matilda Cakebread.

She worked for IBM (early days for the firm) in 1920's.

She also worked for "Famous Players" - silent movie producers in office work. Her father would not allow her to accept their offer to act in films.

Ruth married 1st a young man, probably in Brooklyn. They had eloped. She revealed this to me when she was age 85. I have forgotten his name. The marriage was annulled by her father because the young man was Catholic while Ruth was Protestant.

She married 2nd George Edward Winter. They were my grandparents. (Linda Brown RAIOLA)

She led an active social/community life.

Ruth was a very energetic, warm person. We called her the piano mover because she always tried to re-arrange our house when she came to visit.

She was a great walker which may partially her longevity (she died age 102, taking only the occasional aspirin ....). When she was operated on for breast cancer about age 91, she quickly was up and about scolding other patients for staying in bed.

As a young lady, there's a photo of her on a motorcycle.

She did break both wrists while roller-skating at Jones Beach, Long Island - AT AGE 75 !!!

She lived from about age 78-80 at the Masonic Retirement Home, Bleecker St, Utica, NY. She participated to the ball choir and loved to escort visitors around the site.
