Ruby Jean Watkins was born May 7, 1937 to Willie and Henrietta Payne, who preceded her in death in Abilene, Texas. She attended Woodson High School. Ruby was employed many years with Timex, Texas Instruments, Nurses Unlimited, and Interim Health Care {until her health failed}. At an early age, she professed Christ at Southside Church of God in Christ under Supt. A. C. Bennett, where she sang in the choir, participated in the youth department and Sunday School in the local and district churches.
Her parents; two brothers, Cecil Hill and Willie Payne, Jr.; one sister, Bobbie Coplin, and a daughter-in-law, Valerie Kershaw Cruse, preceded her in death.
Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Donald Cruse, Greg Cruse {Nancy}, and Reginald Cruse {Karen}, of Abilene; a daughter, Wanda Lowry {special friend, Joe Jones}; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Earlie Payne {Eunice} and a sister, Annie L. Jackson {A. J.}, both of Abilene; a special cousin, Dorothy Jean Crain; a special friend, Lynn Ferrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, at Galilee Baptist Church with Elder Samuel Tabor officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at 2041 Parramore.
