Balzer, Donald a longtime resident of Tustin, passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2016, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marilyn Humeston Balzer; his three daughters, Lisa Campbell (Steve), Nancy Frey (Bill), and Darsie White. He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Signalman 2/c, he was a crew member of the USS Brown and later was assigned to the USS Missouri where he witnessed the signing of the Peace Treaty by representatives of the Japanese Government. Following this he was transferred to the USS South Dakota on which he returned to the U. S. He has five Battle Stars for engagements at Tarawa, Saipan, the Marshalls, Carolines and other operations. He received training at San Diego and Los Angeles following his enlistment in the Navy, Nov. 28, 1942. He left for the Pacific in June, 1943. He was a member of the class of 1942, Tustin High school. Hes parents are Mr. and Mrs. Otto Balzer of Tustin.
