Charles was born in Buffalo Erie Co., N.Y., the only son of Charles Edward and Mary Flynn Buckner on May 15, 1931. His mother; Mary B. Flynn was the daughter of Patrick J. and Mary R. Flynn of Buffalo, Erie, Co., N.Y., and Charles, Sr, was the son of Edward and Mary Pearl Wood Buckner of Medina, Orleans Co., N.Y.
Right after his parents were married, they moved in with the his Mother's cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Harold E. & Elizabeth Barney at 344 DeWitt St., Buffalo, N.Y. While his Father worked in construction, his Mother soon found herself expecting their first child, which would be Charles.
Unfortunately, fate dealt a cruel blow when a on the job accident took Charles, Sr.'s life in the spring of 1931. Family lore explains that a "sewer tile" rolled down upon him in a hole, killing him instantly. No obituary or newspaper report has been located to date, other than a note in "The Medina Daily Journal" on March 03, 1931 stating that his Father's Sister (Mildred Buckner Hellert) had been called to Buffalo over the previous weekend due to his death.
Mary Buckner a very young widow delivered their first born, Charles Edward Buckner, Jr. on May 15, 1931, in Buffalo, Erie Co., N.Y.
The Buckner Family kept in contact during his early childhood while his Mother remained in the immediate area near where his Grandparents Buckner lived, but lost contact after that time. Included is the only childhood photo we have.
